Check out the tips below to help you get started with Gmail.

Check out the categories in your inbox

Your emails are automatically organized into tabs. For example, an email about a sale from a shopping site can be found in the "Promotions" tab.

Choose a theme for your inbox

You can choose an image for your inbox background. To get started, click Settings Settings and then Themes.

Find your emails

Use the Search box to quickly find your emails. Inside the search box, click the Down arrow to filter your results Down Arrow.

Organize your emails with labels

Labels are like folders, but you can add more than one label to a message. To add a label to an email, select the email, then click Labels Label. The label will be shown next to the email.

Open & download attachments

You'll see a preview of attachments sent to you at the bottom of your email. Click the preview to see the attachment, download it, print it, and more.

Undo sending a message

Turn on Undo Send to get extra time to look at an email before it gets delivered.

Automatically manage incoming emails

Filters can do things like automatically label, archive, delete, star, and forward your incoming emails.

Start a video call

When you add someone to your Hangouts chat list, you can start a video call with them from your inbox by hovering over their name and clicking Video call Video call.

Check emails from all your accounts

If you use multiple accounts, you can check all your emails in Gmail. You can also send messages from an address that isn't your Gmail address.
